Day 1 (Sunday, July 9): by Pierce
Today we stared the day off by meeting at East Hills, and made sure everybody was there and pack up the cars to leave for Summer Camp. At around 11:30am we arrived in Clare to stop for lunch, and then we were on the road again for a couple minutes before we arrived at camp. Once we arrived at camp we loaded up the trailers with our gear and counted off and waited as we were being checked in. After a half hour of waiting we walked to the Shuck campsite, picked out tents, unloaded our gear and setup camp. Halfway through setting up camp it was time to do health checks and our swim tests, so we walked down to the parade field and waited in line for an hour, went through health checks and then to the dining hall to setup for dinner, and then watch the Camp Rotary video. After all that was done we went down to the waterfront to do swim tests. Once we had all completed our swim test we walked back to camp and finished setting up camp. Later we went to dinner and then to the opening campfire. After the campfire we walked back to camp and formed up and then went to sleep.
Day 2 (Monday, July 10): by Nick
Today was pretty much the tutorial of camp. For many merit badge classes, you did not do anything and the Merit Badge Counselors explained safety things. Per usual, breakfast started at 8:00am, lunch at 12:00pm and dinner at 6:00pm. It was sunny most of the day and a lot of people were happy because they got to cool off in the lake. Some people say Monday was boring, but it made the rest of camp a lot more fun!
Day 3 (Tuesday, July 11): by Owen
We woke up at 6:45am and headed to colors, we were on time and headed to breakfast after. For breakfast we had pancakes and sausage. The pancakes were a little hard! After that we all headed to our classes. Everyone’s classes went well and we had a lot of fun. At lunch, we had tacos because it was taco Tuesday. We left lunch and headed to our classes which went well. At dinner we had chicken parmesan. We formed up back at night and Pierce’s patrol won patrol of the day, John and Tommy won tent of the day, and Hugh won scout of the day.
Day 4 (Wednesday, July 12): by Robert
Today was a very fun day at Camp Rotary. It was the second day we actually got to do things in our classes. This means that on Monday, the only thing we did was learn about what we were going to be doing that week. That also meant that everyone could have fun in the class. The camp carnival is supposed to be tomorrow. I hoped that everyone would have fun and they did. Overall, everyone had a very fun and very productive day.
Day 5 (Thursday, July 13): by Jack
This morning we woke after a ferocious thunderstorm, spooking most campers. Breakfast consisted of biscuits and gravy which was a troop favorite. It continued to sprinkle throughout the day. The wind blew nicely for those who were earning their small boat sailing merit badge. That evening most of the patrol projects were finished and we had a campfire with a Venturing Crew. We performed funny skits and everyone laughed.
Day 6 (Friday, July 14): by Mark
We woke up around 6:45 am (from Mr. Brouhard’s air horn) and the troop started to get dressed for opening flags. At around 7:30 we went to flags at the parade field. Then we had breakfast and headed to our merit badges. Since most of the merit badges were done/finishing early the troop had lots of free time. The patrols were taking down projects and in the afternoon we went to lunch. Then after a few more merit badges it was time for the troop to get into uniform and go to closing flags. At this time they gave out different awards for example biggest fish, mile swim, troop awards and other different awards. After that we went to the Friday night campfire. The different troops performed funny and others not so funny skits. Next we did the Order of the Arrow ceremony and honored the Eagle Scouts present at camp. At the end of the Friday night campfire we formed up and headed back to camp. After that we formed up again and got changed and went to bed. It was a great last full day at camp.
Day 7 (Saturday, July 15): by Joey
On the last morning of this amazing week of camp, everyone had gotten up and went right to packing. The entire troop was scrambling around to put everything and anything in the trailers. By the time the dust settled, all of our supplies were being hauled off to the parking lot. At that point the entire troop was formed up and marching down to morning colors. After colors, we had a delicious, sugary breakfast of pop tarts and cinnamon rolls. After everyone was done eating we watched a slideshow that had pictures submitted by all the troops in camp for the week. After breakfast we all went down to the parade field for closing colors. At colors we received the Gold Award of Excellence for this week of camp. We wrapped up a very fun week of camp by receiving another Gold Award ribbon to hang on our troop flag.
